Course Overview & local Relevance

Our customized HGV Class 2 curriculum provides intensive, DVSA-aligned practical training. This local program integrates immediate proximity to Gillingham DVSA test routes and the busy Sittingbourne transport corridor, offering students genuine local geographical advantages and immediate integration into nearby supply corridors.

The Medway Towns are an industrial powerhouse. With massive logistics parks spanning from Strood to Chatham, and the London Thamesport right around the corner on the Isle of Grain, Medway drivers are in permanent demand.

The Class 2 (Category C) licence is the backbone of local haulage. Whether you are delivering to supermarkets, construction sites, or retail stores, the Class 2 qualification offers steady work, competitive pay, and the benefit of being home every night. Our training uses modern automatic vehicles, ensuring you learn on the same technology used by the UK's leading fleets.

We support Class 2 learners across Gillingham, Rochester, Chatham, Strood, Rainham, Hoo and the wider Kent area.

Class 2 Training in Medway — FAQs

Q: Are there local driving jobs in the Medway towns?

Absolutely. Between the Medway City Estate, the retail distribution hubs in Strood, and the nearby Thamesport, our Jobs Hub will connect you with dozens of local hauliers actively hiring newly qualified drivers.

Q: Do I need a Class 2 before getting a Class 1?

No. Following the 2021 law changes, if you have a valid car licence, you can train straight for your Class 1 (C+E) articulated licence.

Q: How is the D4 medical arranged?

Our concierge team will book your D4 medical with a partnered doctor local to Medway, saving you time and travel.

Q: What exactly is a Class 2 (Category C) vehicle?

A Class 2 vehicle is a "rigid" truck where the cab and the trailer are permanently fixed together. This includes vehicles like fire engines, bin lorries, tipper trucks, and large box vans used for store deliveries.

Q: Can I drive an articulated lorry with this licence?

No. To drive an articulated lorry (where the trailer pivots behind the cab), you need a Class 1 (C+E) licence. However, getting your Class 2 is an excellent stepping stone, and you can easily upgrade to Class 1 later in your career.

Q: How much can I earn as a Class 2 driver?

Newly qualified Class 2 drivers typically start on £30,000 to £35,000 per year. Because these roles often involve local routes and multi-drop deliveries, the hours are usually very regular, allowing you to be home every evening.

Q: Do I need a Driver CPC for Class 2?

Yes. If you are driving an HGV for commercial purposes (to earn money), the Driver CPC is a legal requirement. Our training packages include full preparation for your Initial CPC modules.

Q: Will I learn in a manual or automatic truck?

You will train and test in a modern automatic rigid truck. Due to DVLA rule changes, passing in an automatic still gives you the legal entitlement to drive manual Class 2 vehicles.

Q: How long does the training take?

From your initial medical to passing your practical test, the process usually takes 5 to 7 weeks. The longest part of the process is simply waiting for the DVLA to return your provisional licence.
