HGV Training Hub takes complete beginners from a car licence to a paid driving job on full-size vehicles. One consultant owns your file from the first call: they book your medical, get the provisional entitlement onto your licence, put your theory and Driver CPC dates in the diary, reserve the truck and the instructor, and stay with you until the DVSA examiner signs you off. The four routes, and what each one costs

The prices below are the whole course — not a deposit, not a day rate — and every DVSA test fee is already inside them. Class 1 is shown as a range because upgrading from Class 2 is shorter, and cheaper, than coming straight from a car licence.

What actually happens, in the order it happens

1. The D4 medical. A short appointment with a doctor who checks your eyesight, blood pressure and anything that affects safe driving, such as diabetes or sleep apnoea. We book it for you with an approved provider.
2. The D2 form. The application that adds lorry or bus provisional entitlement to your driving licence. It costs nothing, and we fill it in with you, because a wrong box here is the most common reason a start date slips.
3. Theory and hazard perception. Two computer-based tests at a DVSA centre. We give you the practice material and book the slots.
4. Driver CPC case studies. Driver CPC is the professional qualification every lorry and bus driver holds alongside the licence itself. The case study paper is part of earning it, and it is sat at the same test centre.
5. Your training days. Real hours behind the wheel of a full-size truck with a DVSA-approved instructor, in the same class of vehicle you will be tested in. No simulators, no undersized vehicles.
6. The practical tests. An off-road reversing and manoeuvring exercise, an on-road drive with an examiner, and a walk-round demonstration covering loading, load security and vehicle safety checks.

What is inside the price

Every fee on the route is covered by us: the D4 medical, the theory test, the hazard perception test, the Driver CPC case studies, the off-road manoeuvring test, the on-road driving test and the final practical demonstration. You will not be asked for a card at the test centre, and you will not get a call later asking for another payment. Going straight to Class 1, or upgrading from Class 2

You do not need a Class 2 licence before a Class 1. Coming straight from a car licence you sit one set of theory tests, not two, and the two practical stages run back to back. If you already hold Class 2 and want the articulated licence, there is no further theory and no repeat of the mock tests — but you do take the off-road reversing exercise again, because manoeuvring an articulated combination is a separate practical from manoeuvring a rigid and the examiner assesses it in its own right. Where you will train

Training runs from our Kent centres, and learners travel in from across the South East. If you live outside our own catchment we place you with a centre that has the right vehicle and an instructor for your licence class, rather than parking you on a waiting list.

Common questions

How long does it take to get an HGV licence?

For most people, four to eight weeks from the first phone call to a full licence. The medical and the provisional application take days rather than weeks. After that the timeline is set by DVSA test availability at your centre and by how many training days your route needs: three for C1 7.5 tonne, from five for Class 2, Class 1 and PCV.

Do I need a Class 2 licence before I can get a Class 1?

No. You can go from a standard car licence to a Class 1 articulated licence in one continuous route, sitting one set of theory tests. Some people still take Class 2 first because it gets them earning sooner, then upgrade later.

Is there anything to pay on the day of a test?

No. The DVSA test fees are paid by us as part of your course, so nothing is collected at the test centre.

What happens if I do not pass first time?

You take a retest. No training school can promise a pass, and anyone advertising a guaranteed pass is selling you a slogan rather than a licence. What we will do is tell you honestly what went wrong, put you back in the vehicle where the time is actually needed, and get you in front of an examiner again.
