Frequently asked questions

Do I already have a C1 licence?

If you passed your car driving test before January 1st, 1997, you likely already have "Grandfather Rights" for C1. If you passed after this date, you must take the official C1 test.

Is this the exact licence I need to become a paramedic?

Yes. All NHS ambulance services require front-line staff to hold a full Category C1 licence before they can drive an ambulance.

How long does C1 training take?

Training is incredibly fast. Once your provisional licence is back from the DVLA, the practical training is typically completed in just 3 to 5 days.

Do I need the Driver CPC?

If you are driving an ambulance for the NHS, you are generally exempt from the CPC. However, if you are driving commercially (like a courier), you will need to complete the Initial CPC, which we provide.

Is the medical exam required for C1?
