C1 7.5T Training in Southampton - FAQs

Q: How is training priced for Southampton?

You can see course prices on our pricing page. For the Southampton area we confirm your full all-in price in writing, DVSA test fees included, along with the school, test centre and dates, before you pay anything. The Full Package also covers booking your D4 medical at an approved clinic near your home.

Q: Where do Southampton learners take the lorry test?

At Southampton LGV, which is out at Botley, about 8 miles by road from the city centre along the A3024 and A334. It tests lorries and buses only. The Southampton (Maybush) centre is for car tests, and your test centre is confirmed in writing before you pay.

Q: Will I have to travel to Kent to train?

No. We arrange one-to-one training in a full-size vehicle with an approved partner school near you. Before you pay anything, we tell you the school and instructor, and confirm your test centre, dates and full all-in price in writing.

Q: Do I already have a C1 licence?

If you passed your car driving test before January 1st, 1997, you likely already have "Grandfather Rights" for C1. If you passed after this date, you must take the official C1 test.

Q: Is this the exact licence I need to become a paramedic?

Yes. All NHS ambulance services require front-line staff to hold a full Category C1 licence before they can drive an ambulance.

Q: How long does C1 training take?

Training is incredibly fast. Once your provisional licence is back from the DVLA, the practical training is typically completed in just 3 to 5 days.

Q: Do I need the Driver CPC?

If you are driving an ambulance for the NHS, you are generally exempt from the CPC. However, if you are driving commercially (like a courier), you will need to complete the Initial CPC, which we provide.

Q: Is the medical exam required for C1?

Yes, you still need to pass the standard D4 medical exam, which our Concierge team will arrange for you locally.

Q: What vehicles will I learn in?

You will train in modern, easy-to-drive 7.5-tonne panel vans or box trucks, setting you up perfectly for real-world driving.
