Genuinely free training exists, but it is narrow: it is nearly always a government scheme with eligibility rules, or an employer paying on condition you work for them afterwards. Anyone advertising free training with no conditions attached is advertising something else.
What follows is what actually exists, who qualifies, and what to do if none of it applies to you.
Department for Education funded, delivered by approved providers, and aimed at getting adults into shortage occupations quickly. Provision has thinned considerably since the 2021 to 2022 driver shortage and availability varies enormously by region and by year. We are not a Bootcamp provider, so if a funded place is genuinely available near you, take it. We will tell you where to look and we will offer an alternative route if there is nothing running.
If you claim Universal Credit or Jobseeker’s Allowance, your work coach can apply for training funding on your behalf. The specific thing to ask for is a Lower Value Provision application. Say you have a place with us, and we will deal with your work coach directly on the paperwork and the dates. This route is used far less than it could be, almost entirely because claimants do not know the phrase to use.
