Class 2 Training in Enfield - FAQs

Q: What work is there for lorry and bus drivers in Enfield?

Enfield has the second-largest stock of industrial space in London, with Strategic Industrial Locations in the Lee Valley and at Southbury, and Edmonton has the Eley Industrial Estate and the EcoPark waste site. Arriva London runs bus garages at Enfield and Edmonton. We offer introductions to our employer network once you pass.

Q: Can I get funded HGV training as an Enfield resident?

As a Londoner aged 19 or over, you can check Skills Bootcamps for Londoners, funded through the Greater London Authority. Its finder lists HGV courses under Logistics (Including HGV), though places can be fully booked and some courses are co-funded. Our funding page explains the other options.

Q: How much does HGV training cost in Enfield?

All our course prices are on the pricing page, and DVSA test fees are included. For Enfield learners we confirm the full all-in price in writing, together with the training centre, test centre and dates, before you pay anything.

Q: What exactly is a Class 2 (Category C) vehicle?

A Class 2 vehicle is a "rigid" truck where the cab and the trailer are permanently fixed together. This includes vehicles like fire engines, bin lorries, tipper trucks, and large box vans used for store deliveries.

Q: Can I drive an articulated lorry with this licence?

No. To drive an articulated lorry (where the trailer pivots behind the cab), you need a Class 1 (C+E) licence. However, getting your Class 2 is an excellent stepping stone, and you can easily upgrade to Class 1 later in your career.

Q: How much can I earn as a Class 2 driver?

Newly qualified Class 2 drivers typically start on £30,000 to £35,000 per year. Because these roles often involve local routes and multi-drop deliveries, the hours are usually very regular, allowing you to be home every evening.

Q: Do I need a Driver CPC for Class 2?

Yes. If you are driving an HGV for commercial purposes (to earn money), the Driver CPC is a legal requirement. Our training packages include full preparation for your Initial CPC modules.

Q: Will I learn in a manual or automatic truck?

You will train and test in a modern automatic rigid truck. Due to DVLA rule changes, passing in an automatic still gives you the legal entitlement to drive manual Class 2 vehicles.

Q: How long does the training take?

From your initial medical to passing your practical test, the process usually takes 5 to 7 weeks. The longest part of the process is simply waiting for the DVLA to return your provisional licence.
