Leighton Buzzard (Stanbridge Road) is the only public DVSA lorry and bus test centre in Bedfordshire, and the nearest one by road for Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, Luton and much of west and north Hertfordshire. Here is how to find it, what DVSA's latest figures show, and what to expect on the day.
DVSA calls the centre Leighton Buzzard (Stanbridge Road), but the address GOV.UK gives is Leighton Road, Stanbridge, Leighton Buzzard LU7 4QG. It sits just outside the town, about 2 miles by road from Leighton Buzzard town centre. Because the name and the street differ, put the postcode into your sat nav and go by your DVSA booking confirmation.
It is a shared site: GOV.UK lists it for car tests, motorcycle module 1 (off-road), lorry and bus tests, and part 3 of the driving instructor qualification. The test centres at Luton, Bedford, Bletchley and Aylesbury do not test lorries or buses.
There is no public lorry or bus test centre in Milton Keynes, Luton or Hertfordshire, so Stanbridge draws candidates from Bedfordshire, west and north Hertfordshire, Milton Keynes and Aylesbury Vale. From Milton Keynes the next nearest is Northampton LGV, about 19 miles by road, which took over from Weedon LGV in May 2026. Measured from each town centre:
Leighton Buzzard is close to the M1 and the A5, and the A4146 gives access to the M1 via junction 11/11a and the A5-M1 link. That link opened in May 2017: 2.8 miles of dual carriageway to a new junction 11a, built for £162m and described by the government at the time as giving HGV drivers easier access to the M1. In Dunstable, the old A5 through the town is now the A5183, with a 7.5-tonne limit on most town-centre roads.
Nearby, Leighton Buzzard has a sizeable sand quarrying industry, the A5505 Woodside Link connects the Woodside estate in Houghton Regis to junction 11a, and Magna Park in Milton Keynes covers about 3.5 million sq ft. DVSA sets the test routes, so treat this as a picture of the area, not a route map.
As at every DVSA centre, the practical test comes in two parts. Part 3a, the off-road test, is an S-shaped reverse into a bay, with uncoupling and recoupling added for trailer tests such as Class 1. Part 3b, the on-road test, starts with vehicle safety questions and continues with about an hour of driving, around 10 minutes of it independent. Twelve or fewer driving faults and no serious or dangerous faults is a pass.
Part 3a can also be done with an approved private test provider, so we confirm in writing where each part of your test takes place.
DVSA's 2025/26 figures show 2,394 lorry on-road tests at Leighton Buzzard, with 1,402 passes: a pass rate of 58.6%. Among the lorry centres serving Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and North London, only Yeading in west London carried out more lorry tests that year.
Bus candidates test here too. DVSA's 2025/26 figures show 385 bus on-road tests at Leighton Buzzard, with 242 passes, a pass rate of 62.9%. Treat pass rates as background: your own result depends far more on how well prepared you are.
GOV.UK says DVSA will make arrangements for you at this centre if you have a disability. Mention it when your test is booked so the arrangements are in place on the day.
Bring these, because a missing document means the test does not go ahead and the fee is lost:
